The other day our family and L’s family decided to take a trip to see the Pony at Rawang. I didnt know whether it was nice, but took the chance since it was the school holiday and master 1 was getting a little bored at home. The idea came about from L’s son. They had a holiday program and all of the holiday kids were attending, so L decided to tag along.
So i mention to piggy about this pony trip that we were planning to go and he decided to tag along. Great, a family day out. We didnt really know much about this pony riding in Rawang, and after making many phone calls, it was located at the Commonwealth park. Still no idea where or what kind of location..
Being clueless about the location, we used our GPS and typed in Templer’s park since we couldnt find commonwealth park. Someone suggested it was called Templer’s park. After a good 45 minutes drive, Templer’s park was on our left hand side. Thinking to myself, hmm this looks like a big field, simple park. We were about to turn in when the drive in front of us ( we were semi following L’s car and GPS), continued driving straight. It was then we realised that it wasnt Temple’s park that they were talking about. When we finally found the park it was called “ Commonwealth Forest Park”.
The entrance looked rather bare and deserted, but we continued to enter. We drove a good 5 minutes through the beautiful up hill winding road.. I was in Awe… all i could see up is tall trees.
Finally we found the car park, and there were actually people in the reserve. Not so many compared to FRIM, but a handful. Mostly Malays. They were riding on the horses, and i was beginning to feel happy. We decided to take the kids to explore the backyard of the forest. Master 2 saw the rooster running around the yard, and he decided to follow. He was ecstatic… you could see his expression. It was the first time a city boy saw a rooster in the kampung style yard (village). Both Master 1 and L’s sons were overjoyed.
After exploring and taking heaps of photos, we decided it was time for a little snack, so we found a picnic hut and started stuffing our face with hotdog made by me.
My kids and L’s kids were busy exploring the nature. Master 2 and L’s youngest son hang out at the sandpit and stream, whereas master 1 and L’s eldest son were on the hunt for paint ball bullets.
Unfortunately, we couldnt get the chance to ride on the pony as it was time for them to take a snooze( the horse needed their morning rest). Beside that we had one of the greatest time hanging out in the forest and took lots of photos.
We should encourage more of our children to go to these kind of places. City kids need to get in touch with nature . Fresh air and scent from forest is a change from the polluted hazy air we face in the suburban area and city. Nowadays kids need to be introduce to the nature of insects and livings things found in the forest. In the future, they might not be able to see these things…
Today i was reading the star newspaper and they were mentioning something about another forest reserve, Ayer Hitam Forest Reserve. We are interested in checking out the place as it is located in Puchong, somewhere in Saujana. I have email the caretaker and i hope we can get a feedback from him.
